Indomitable Lions Of Cameroon: Discover new faces called by Coach for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Antonio Conceiçao has made public a list of 36 players that will represent Cameroon in their next outing in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It should be recalled that Cameroon was drawn in Group D alongside Malawi, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique in the second and last qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Cameroon will face Malawi on the 05th June 2021 and travel to Abidjan Ivory Coast on 11th June 2021 for Match Day of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The list of players called up includes the usual players while Eric Maxim Choupou Moting is making his return back to the squad after his team Bayern Munich was eliminated at the quarter-finals of Champions League by his former Ligue1 team PSG with Choupou scoring at home and away in France. The player missed Cameroon’s last outing of AFCON 2021 qualifiers which the Indomitable Lions lost against Cape Verde (Cape Verde 03 Vs Cameroon 01) and the game against Rwanda at the Japoma Stadium which ended goallessly.
Equally returning to the squad is the Douala-born Ignatius GANAGO. The player has been having a renaissance in France after he signed for RD LENS from OGC NICE for a transfer fee of 6m Euros on July 10, 2020. He scored last week against France Ligue1 Title defenders PSG though his team was defeated by 02 goals to 01. Also returning to the squad are the likes of Stephan BAHOKEN, Karl TOKO EKAMBI, FAI Collins, BASSOGOG Christian, BLondy NOUKEU playing in the French Ligue1 for Angers, Lyon, Standard Liege-Belgium, Shanghai Shenshua-China, Stoke City-England respectively. Most of these players missed the last camping with the Indomitable Lions due to covid-19 travel restrictions in Europe that saw many African countries miss most of their key players especially those playing professional football in France.

Devis EPASSY. 28 years Cameroonian of French origin, Devis EPASSY was born on 02 February 1993. He has had a narrow career in several clubs and presently he plays for PAS LAMIA in Greece Super League 1. So far this season, he has appeared in 20 matches as a goalkeeper for the team, conceding 19 goals, keeping 10 clean sheets, and backing home 2 yellow cards.
BILLONG Jean Claude. 27 Years Cameroonian, BILLONG Jean Claude was born 28th December 1993 in Paris France. He plays as central defender for the Turkish side Hatayspor with Jersey No 06. He has played 26 games this season with no assist, no goal and 02 yellow cards received
Uzueghunam, John Mary. John Mary U, a 28 years old Cameroonian of Nigerian descent, was born in Nnobi, Nigeria, on March 9, 1993. On loan from Chinese club Shenzhen FC, he plays professional football for Avispa Fukuoka in Japan as a center forward. John Mary has played in four games for his Japanese team this season, scoring three goals.
Remarkably left out of this squad this time around are the likes of Haschou Kerrido (PWD of Bamenda), Banga Bindjeme II Salomon (Coton Sport) from the Cameroon’s local championship Ngah Fabrice (ceramica cleo patra Esgypt), Bagnack Mcky (Partizan Belgrade-Serbia), Ngwem Jonathan Joseph (El Couna fc- Egypt), Serge Leuko (Waasl Beveren-Belgium). All these players were present during the last outings of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
The Minister of Sports and Physical Education confirmed Portuguese born coach António Conceição da Silva Oliveira popularly known as Toni Conceição as Heach coach of the Indomitable Lions until the 2021 AFCON tournament. The former Portuguese international right-back replaced Clarence Seedorf who was fired after the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
The Portuguese who is having his first experience as a national team coach and the first in the African continent is assisted by Ex-Cameroon internationals François Oman Biyik, Jacques Songo’o as goalkeeper coach and team Doctor Professor William Ngatchou.
