Paul Biya appoints North West/South West Public Independent Conciliators who are pioneers in the field.

Simon Tamfu Fai and Dorothy Atabong, Epouse Motaze have been appointed as the first Public Independent Conciliators of Cameroon’s crisis-torn North West and South West regions, respectively.

They were appointed by a Presidential decree signed on Thursday, June 10, following Presidential Decree N° 2020/773 of December 24, 2020, which established the conditions for the discharge of duties of Public Independent Conciliators in the country’s North West and South West regions.

Dorothy Atabong Epouse Motaze, the newly appointed Public Independent Conciliator of the South West region, is a 61-year-old retired Professor from Menji in the Lebialem Division of Cameroon’s South West region.
She was the former South West Regional Delegate for Basic Education.

Simon Tamfu Fai, the newly appointed Public Independent Conciliator of the North West region, is a 66-year-old retired Engineer in Petroleum Geology.

He is from Taku, a village in Nkambe’s Donga Mantung Division in Cameroon’s North West region.

Dorothy Atabong Epouse Motaze, the newly appointed Public Independent Conciliator of the South West region, is a 61-year-old retired Professor from Menji in the Lebialem Division of Cameroon’s South West region.
She was previously the South West Regional Delegate for Basic Education.

Simon Tamfu Fai, the newly appointed Public Independent Conciliator of the North West region, is a 66-year-old retired Engineer in Petroleum Geology.

The former National Hydrocarbons Corporation Director of Exploration is a graduate of the Nigeria’s University of Ibadan.

About the duties of the regional Public Independent Conciliator


The Public Independent Conciliator, PIC established in the Special status of the Anglophone regions has an independent regional authority.

According to section 367 sub section III of the General code of regional and local authorities, the PIC in the Anglophone regions shall be responsible for examining and settling disputes between users and regional and council administrations.

He/she has the duty to defend an protect rights and freedoms, with regards to the relationship between citizens and the region or the councils.

Conducting any investigation on the functioning of regional and council public services at the request of five parliamentarians or five regional Councillors is part of his/her duties
